I agree that mere output without direction is a bad approach. But hitting goals especially BHAGs can demoralize if people don’t hit them. Best way to hit goals is … consistent output. You’re not going to get there with pow-wows and project-based thinking.
Output oriented teams can be effective, but that output always has to be led by a person who isn’t doing the output too. This is the job of what I’d like to think a competent manager. Competence comes from setting the routine that can be moulded adaptively to push real-time adjustments.
